Welcome to Costa Dorada

Costa Dorada

Discover Holidays to Costa Dorada

Not to be confused with America’s Gold Coast, the lovely coastline on Spain’s eastern flank is the Costa Dorada, a real glittery Golden Coast. No one would question why the powers that be chose this coast for the introduction of that wonderful theme park, PortAventura, as the climate is just about perfect and the landscape very forgiving. If you think about how areas are “baptised”, the Golden Coast name must derive from the bright orange disc of sunshine that drapes over the area like a warm yellow cloak. Costa Dorada is well placed and benefits from proximity to beautiful Barcelona, so make time for at least a day trip to enjoy the quirky architecture of Antonio Gaudi and the super stunning Sagrada Familia Cathedral and even visit the Olympic Stadium. Another gem worth visiting on Costa Dorada holidays is the historic city of Tarragona which has fortified walls, ancient cobbled streets and some good shopping opportunities.

The location of renowned resorts such as Salou and Cambrils, Costa Dorada holidays are still one of our most popular. Easily accessed from Ireland by flights to both Barcelona and Reus, imagine sitting in the sun just a few short hours are after leaving the old homeland. Flights are only a couple of hours, so are ideally short when travelling with small kids. There is hardly time to be bored! Costa Dorada is the very proud home of an absolutely amazing theme park, PortAventura. This is real family heaven where the entertainment is out of this world – a place where dreams are made! The holiday resorts of Salou, Cap Salou, Cambrils and La Pineda all combine just the right ingredients for happy holidays for couples and families – great beaches, yummy food and top class entertainment.

A current valid Passport is necessary for entry. No visa required for Irish citizens.

Information & Facts

Climate

Costa Dorada actually has quite cool springs, but lovely warm summers, which could be another reason why we Irish love the climate. Cooled by gentle breezes even on the hottest summer day, the temperatures can reach late 20’s, even early 30’s, but rarely does the climate become unbearable. The months of April, May and October are cooler, but mostly pleasant with temperatures usually in the late teens.

Shopping

Costa Dorada has all the usual good Spanish buys on offer. Opt for some decent olive oil and some salty Jamon Serrano. Pretty painted ceramics should be on the shopping list too. Naturally, leather goods are good value and the resorts sell lovely embroidered espadrilles which are great for the beach and comfortable enough for a lazy stroll. Swimwear is different too and reasonably priced.

Time

Costa Dorada is one hour ahead of Ireland in summertime.
